Electrical Repairs & Fault Finding Services in Padstow
About two-thirds of the calls we take are the everyday stuff: a safety switch that keeps tripping, a GPO that stopped working after a storm, half the kitchen dead after a kettle failed, a downlight that buzzes, a hot-water breaker that will not stay in. None of those are emergencies overnight, but they do need someone on-site the same day so you are not living around them.
What electrical repairs & fault finding usually looks like around Padstow
The bread-and-butter Padstow repairs are nuisance safety-switch trips (usually a leaky outdoor GPO or a failing hot-water element), dead ceiling-fan capacitors on the older brick homes, and burnt-out kitchen GPOs behind fridges and dishwashers. Fixed on the visit where the part is on the van.
Response target: on-site within 90 minutes for emergencies across Padstow and surrounds, day or night.

That includes fault-finding on tripping circuits, replacing failed RCDs, GPOs and light switches, LED downlight replacements, ceiling fan installs, cooktop and oven wiring, hot-water changeovers, and adding weatherproof outdoor circuits for pergolas, sheds and pool pumps.
When you call, we ask enough questions on the phone to have the right parts on the van when we arrive — so most single-fault jobs are diagnosed and permanently repaired in one visit rather than the classic 'come back tomorrow with the part' pattern. Everything is tested and left compliant with AS/NZS 3000, with compliance paperwork provided where required.

Frequently Asked Questions About Electrical Repairs & Fault Finding in Padstow
My safety switch keeps tripping — how do I narrow down what is causing it before I call?
Unplug every appliance on the tripping circuit (fridge, kettle, microwave, phone chargers — everything), then reset the RCD. If it holds, plug things back in one at a time and see which appliance trips it. That is usually the culprit and it does not need an electrician, just a new appliance. If the RCD trips again with everything unplugged, the fault is in the wiring or in the RCD itself, and you do need a sparky the same day.
Half my house has power and the other half does not — is that a fuse or a wire?
On a modern board it is almost always a tripped circuit breaker (the switch pointing the wrong way) — reset it and see what happens. If it will not stay in, or trips again immediately, there is a fault on that circuit. On an older ceramic-fuse board, a blown fuse wire looks like a hairline break inside the ceramic carrier and needs replacing by a licensed electrician (do not just fit a bigger fuse wire — that is how house fires start).
A GPO has stopped working — is it always the outlet itself?
Not always. Sometimes the GPO has genuinely burnt out (you will see scorching around the pins). More often the neutral or active has come loose in the back of the outlet, or a downstream GPO on the same circuit has failed and taken this one with it. We test the whole circuit rather than just swapping the visible outlet, otherwise the same fault comes back a month later.
How much notice do you need for a non-urgent repair?
For anything that is not sparking, smoking or dangerous, calling in the morning almost always gets you a same-day slot in the Bankstown area. Calling the afternoon before is even better — it lets us route jobs sensibly so you get a tighter arrival window rather than a four-hour block.
Do you provide a compliance certificate for small jobs like a GPO replacement?
Prescribed electrical work in NSW — including replacing a GPO, replacing a switch, installing a new circuit, replacing an RCD or working in a switchboard — needs compliance paperwork on completion. We handle that as standard on every job that requires it and give you a copy for your records.
Can you install ceiling fans, downlights or a new GPO on the same visit as a repair?
Usually yes — if you tell us on the phone that you also want a fan installed or a couple of GPOs added while we are there, we bring the extra parts and quote both at once. It works out cheaper than a second callout, and it means the same electrician who has already looked at your switchboard is doing the extra work.
