Electrical Repairs & Fault Finding in Sydney

Intermittent trips, flickering lights and dead power points always have a cause. We test methodically to find it, rather than swapping parts until the problem goes away for a while.

    How we find faults

We isolate the affected circuit, then test it with a megohmmeter (insulation resistance tester). That shows whether active, neutral and earth are leaking to each other — the usual cause of nuisance RCD trips.

Earth fault loop impedance testing confirms a circuit will trip fast enough in a fault. Polarity and continuity checks catch reversed or broken connections.

    Neutral faults and half-dead circuits

When some lights or power points on a circuit stop working while others are fine, the cause is often a loose or burnt neutral at a joint, power point or junction box. These faults can also cause dim or flickering lights, or appliances acting strangely.

We trace the circuit point by point to find the failed connection and repair it properly, rather than leaving a hidden join to fail again.

    Common repairs

    • Scorched, loose or dead power points (GPOs)
    • Flickering, buzzing or dead lighting circuits
    • Failed light switches and dimmers
    • Outdoor power points damaged by water
    • Oven, cooktop and hot water circuit faults

Electrical Repairs & Fault Finding FAQs

Why does my safety switch trip randomly?

Usually a slow leak to earth from a faulty appliance, a damp outdoor power point, or damaged cabling. Insulation resistance testing finds which one.

    Why do my lights flicker?

Common causes are a loose connection, a failing dimmer, an incompatible LED, or a neutral fault. If many lights flicker together, call us promptly.

Half my power points stopped working. What happened?

Often a failed connection at one point in the chain, frequently a neutral. Everything downstream goes dead. We trace and repair the joint.

Is a warm or discoloured power point dangerous?

Yes. Stop using it and switch off that circuit. Heat or browning means a poor connection that can get worse.
