What counts as an electrical emergency

Call straight away if you have any of these:

    • Burning smell, smoke, heat or buzzing at the switchboard
    • Sparking or scorched power points or switches
    • Water in light fittings, ceilings or power points after a storm
    • A safety switch (RCD) that trips and will not reset
    • Total or partial loss of power that is not a street outage
    • A fallen or damaged service line (call Ausgrid or your network first, then us)

What to do before we arrive

If there is smoke or fire, call 000. If it is safe to reach, switch off the main switch at the board. Stay away from water near electrics. Check your network’s outage map to rule out a street-wide outage.

For an RCD that keeps tripping, switch off every circuit breaker, reset the RCD, then turn circuits back on one at a time. The one that trips it is your faulty circuit — leave it off and tell us which one.

Make-safe first, then the proper fix

Our first job is to make the site safe: isolate the fault and restore power to everything else where we safely can. Then we tell you what caused it and what the permanent repair involves.

Small repairs are usually finished on the spot. Bigger jobs, such as a damaged switchboard, are quoted before any extra work starts, so there are no surprises on the invoice.

    24/7 Emergency Electrician FAQs

How fast can you get to me?

It depends on where you are and the time of day. We give you a realistic arrival time when you call, and keep you updated if it changes.

How much does an emergency callout cost?

We tell you the callout price on the phone before we come. Any extra repair work is quoted before we start it.

My power is out. Is it me or the street?

Check whether neighbours have power and look at your network’s outage map. If it is only your home, check the main switch and RCDs, then call us.

My safety switch keeps tripping. What should I do?

Unplug appliances on that circuit and try resetting. If it still trips, leave it off and call us. Never tape or bypass a safety switch.

    Do you handle storm damage?

Yes. We make water-affected circuits safe, dry-test them, and provide a written report you can use for your insurance claim.
